Newton, Ma. : Molly King from the Valeo FC Power ’07 was selected to represent Massachusetts in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) for the 2018 – 2019 season.
The Olympic Development Program (ODP), according to the US Youth Soccer website:
“The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.
From 1982 until the present, international events for youth national teams have increased substantially and the US Youth Soccer ODP has kept pace by instituting trials and player pools for five age groups in the boys' program, and five age groups in the girls' program.”
In order to be selected for ODP, Molly participated in an open tryout here in Massachusetts that consisted of hundreds of players throughout the state within her age group. According to the ODP selection process, players are evaluated based on the four stages of player development:
Based on Molly’s evaluation conducted by state associated coaches, Molly was selected as one of the top players in her age group throughout the entire state Massachusetts. As a member of the Massachusetts ODP team, Molly will have the opportunity to train with other elite level players and compete in a variety of showcase matches and tournaments throughout the year.
